Controlling your blood sugar when taking steroids

Symptoms typically emerge within a few days or weeks of starting the treatment. Risks may be higher with high doses/systemic exposure (see also section 4.5), although dose levels do not allow prediction of the onset, type, severity or duration of reactions. Most adverse reactions resolve after either dose reduction or withdrawal of the medicine, although specific treatment may be necessary. Eosinophilic keratitis/conjunctivitis usually responds quite dramatically to the application of topical corticosteroids, which are given 2-3 times daily initially to effect and slowly tapered once remission occurs. A combined therapy with topical cyclosporine (0.2% Optimmune) is recommended and will be continued after discontinuation of topical steroids for long-term control of the condition.
